Joint Walkathon 2011
The 2011 Joint Walkathon of hospital chaplaincy committees was held on November 12 (Saturday) at TaiPo WaterFront Park. Over 400 chaplains and volunteers gathered at the Amphitheatre, singing hymns led by Christian pop singers . The “kicking-off” ceremony was officiated by guests from 7 hospitals and representatives from 10 chaplaincy committees as well as Rev. Law Kit Choi from AHKHCCM. The amount of funds raised has exceeded HK$1,300,000.
Joint Thanksgiving Banquet
The Joint Thanksgiving Banquet was held on June 24. The event also celebrated the implementation of the registration system for chaplains, which was turning a new page for chaplaincy professional development in Hong Kong. We have invited Dr. W C Yip (former HCE of Cheshire Home, Shatin and Chairman of Spiritual Care Service Committee for NTEC) to confer certificates to more than 60 registered chaplains. In addition, Rev. Joshua Chan, Chairman of AHKHCCM also presented certificates to those who have completed CPE training. The 14 tables were filled by chaplains, chaplaincy committee members, directors and consultants of AHKHCCM, consultants for Chaplaincy Professional Development as well as Cluster Chief Executives from hospitals.
The 7th Chaplains’Day
The 7th Chaplains’ Day was smoothly held at TsimShaTsui Baptist Church on June 24, 2011. There were 94 chaplains participating this year. We have invited Prof. Simon Kwan, Associate Director (Administration) of Divinity School, CUHK to speak on the topic “From suffering hurt to enduring hurt ~ the Burning Bush”. There were group discussion and sharing after the talk and the event was concluded with Rev. Lo’s remark and prayer.
Taiwan Learning Tour for Chaplains
A study tour for chaplains was organized by AHKHCCM on April 1 to 5, 2011, with an aim to help chaplains reflecting more on life and death issues as well as to have in depth learning on spiritual caring. Apart from 3 staff of AHKHCCM, there are 32 chaplains joining the tour and they come from 13 hospitals. The tour covers visitation to National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Science, Grief Healing Garden, Mackay Memorial Hospital, The Museum of world religions, Tzu Chi University (Medical College) and Tzu Chi General Hospital.
The 4th Pastoral Day for Seminarians
The 4th Hospital Pastoral Day for Seminary Students was successfully held on January 21, 2011 at Yan Fook Church of EFCC. The event was co-organized by 14 seminary schools with around 250 students participated. The topic for this year is “Rethink pastoral care for the sick” and speakers included Rev. Wai Chuen Lo (Professional Development & Pastoral Education Supervisor) and Rev. Kit Choi Law (General Secretary) of the Association of HK Hospital Christian Chaplaincy Ministry. In addition, eight workshops were held and conducted by chaplains who shared their clinical experience with seminary students.
